On this website Dominik or D!, as he is also known present his captivating snake portrait photographs of some of the indigenous snakes found in Bali. Unlike photographs of snakes found in biology books Dominik’s snake photographs are meant to show viewers the individuality and beauty of these magnificent creatures. He uses a rather unique and artistic approach, similar to the way fine-art portraiture of persons is created. Dominik explains: “My goal for these snake photographs was simple: to create the most stunning photographs of snakes possible. Whether I succeeded in this quest or not I leave up to your judgment.”

Dominik did not want to photograph snakes in captivity or go out and ‘hunt’ for them. All of the snakes photographed by Dominik have been found within the compound of his own garden at his residence in South Bali. Dominik kept those snakes for a few days, photographed them and then released them again into their natural habitat. Therefore the various Bali snake species found on this website are not meant as a complete inventory of the snakes found in Bali. Many other species can be found in Bali.

Dominik emphasizes that no harm was done to the serpents he photographed. He does not condone keeping snakes as pets or the trade of any wild animals.

Fine-art prints and limited edition Art-books of those snake portraits are on sale on Dominik’s fine-art photography website: www.d-fine-art.com
